The NVO is the National Virtual Observatory, the US-based Virtual Observatory project that is collaborating with the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) to make it easier for astronomical researchers to find, retrieve, and analyze astronomical data from ground- and space-based telescopes worldwide.

Wroclaw is the main city in the historical area of Silesia located in the south-western part of Poland. It is the capitol of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship which is one of the 16 provinces into which Poland is separated. Located on the Oder River, through the centuries the city of Wroclaw has been part of Poland, Austria, Germany etc.

Have you ever heard about Alpbach? This village in Western Austria is located in the eastern part of the state of Tyrol, which encompasses the historical region Tyrol. The earliest records of Alpbach date almost 1000 years ago. The first road to Alpbach area was built in 1926. The village used to be relatively isolated which fostered the development of its unique architecture.. The habits and the folklore of the locals have also been preserved through the centuries.

Utrecht is the most inhabited city and the capital of the Dutch province of Utrecht .It is located it the eastern part of the Randstad which is an agglomeration of the four biggest cities in the Netherlands - Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague and Utrecht. The city managed to preserve its unique architecture through the centuries. In the central areas of the city you can find buildings and structures from the late medieval ages. Utrecht has been the religious centre of the Netherlands since the eight century to our days. Until recently, Utrecht was the most important city in the Netherlands.

Catalysis: Fundamentals and Practice

Liverpool, 13th - - 17th July 2009

We are running the EPSRC/Liverpool Summer School/Post-graduate conference in catalysis this July. EPSRC have agreed to provide supported places for “their” PhD students; essentially any EPSRC supported student is eligible for an award that covers registration fees, accommodation in Halls of Residence, and most meals during the conference. Travel is not included. This award is in addition to any other EPSRC supported conference attendance.

For “non-EPSRC” students, we are offering an “all in” registration fee of £180 pounds. This covers, registration, accommodation and most meals. Travel is not included.

The course is intended primarily for Master’s and Ph.D. students in the molecular and solid state sciences, particularly from across Europe, but applicants from other regions will be considered. The goal is that the students gain hands-on experience plus a theoretical background in the art and science of routine crystal and molecular structure determination of small molecules by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, as well as in the interpretation and presentation of results. The course will consist of lectures, computer exercises and practical work.
